Horseshoe Lake Improvement Association Invasive Species Control Program

The Horseshoe Lake Improvement Association was awarded a matching grant to help us take action to prevent the introduction of invasive species into our lake. Our major emphasis is Eurasian Water Milfoil, but we are also concerned about Zebra Mussels and Purple Loosestrife.

We need volunteers to inspect arriving and departing boats and trailers at the Horseshoe Lake boat landing. Volunteers also provide invasive species information to landing users.

If you are willing to volunteer, please email the association (see email link to the left on this page) or Jack Sullivan (his email is jsullivanins@aol.com). Please include your name(s), phone number(s), email address(es) and the date(s) and time(s) you are willing to volunteer for. Jack will respond by email. He is also willing to meet anyone who wants to know more about monitoring and would like to receive some training at the landing. Jack thanks all who have given of their time to date.

Monitoring Calendar 2011     Updated 7-31-11

From Friday afternoon to Sunday afternoon are the best times to monitor the boat landings, but you may be there inspecting boats at any other time you feel will be effective. This calendar covers weekends. Two-hour shifts seem the most efficient, but please go even if you can only spend an hour.

(All shifts need volunteers except where filled)
