Horseshoe Lake Improvement Association

General Meeting Minutes
Labor Day 2007

President Steve Eichman called the meeting to order at 9:35 AM.

Treasurer Craig Lorence reported that Beaver Township and the Association split the cost of $1269 for Sully's concrete pads at the boat landing, leaving a balance of $958.71. As of this meeting, there are 135 paid Association members. Motion made and seconded to approve the Treasurer's Report - Approved.

The Nasty Weed Committee presented their report.

MOTION by Virginia Flo, seconded and passed: To approve the position of Lake Coordinator to manage the Rapid Response Grant for the lake association, including tracking of volunteer hours, reporting matching fund dollars to the DNR, and monitoring all activity association with the grant. The Lake Coordinator position would pay $500 a year for the 2-year term of the grant including 2007 and 2008.

MOTION by Virginia Flo, seconded and passed, to offer the Lake Coordinator position to Pam Nelson beginning retroactively to the grant effective date of July 16, 2007.

Pam agreed to accept the position, with the stipulation that her current $500 be donated to the Nasty Weed Committee. Sam Lindquist, Secretary, (the only other paid position on the board) also will donate her current pay to the committee.

Discussion followed about putting pellets in the lake to kill weeds. A DNR permit is needed to place the pellets and they DO NOT treat milfoil.

Motion by John Plashko, seconded and passed, to raise association dues to $50; $10 to go for association expenses and $40 to the milfoil account. This is a small price to maintain our property values on the lake.

There are new pads at the landing, and a sign prohibiting power loading.

Thanks to Marlene Goethel and Mike Foster for the updated directories. Marlene extends a special thanks to the people who contacted neighbors for current directory information: Bob Deverall, Carol Hoeve, Tom/Kay Klinger, Mari Koser, Pam Nelson, Janice Olsen, John Plaschko, Mary Stark, and Marge Thiets.

Discussion of whether we want to renew monitoring at the boat landing. No decision was reached.

In spite of low water levels we can't put sand on the shore for our "new beaches" below the customary low water line.

Meeting adjourned to PICNIC !
